Ten useful things to help you blog successfully

Things? That’s because I couldn’t find a proper description for this list.

So, you’re a blogger, whether you’re an experienced one or a newbie. When you write you need something to create an insightful, well written and quality post. From what I can tell, many bloggers use one or more things listed below to help them to blog better. Without further ado, here are they:

Blogging tools

1. Windows Live Writer

This is simple, yet efficient and very helpful tool to write your posts offline. It has a spellchecker and publishing ability to major blog platform such as WordPress and Blogspot. Read more about Windows Live Writer in our reveiw.

2. ScribeFire

Windows Live Writer but in a different version. This one is a Firefox addon. However, it has somewhat limited capabilities, and so I prefer to use Windows Live Writer. However, if you don’t like to install and use a separate program to write other than your Firefox, this may be suitable for you.

Blogging-related websites and forums:

3. BlogCatalog

It’s hard to imagine a blogger without an account on BlogCatalog (even Darren Rowse of ProBlogger has one! Add him to your friends list and follow his tweets on your dashboard.) This is a place for bloggers to share, learn and socialize. The community is nice, and will help you to develop your blog through discussions and answer questions in specialized groups. The discussion archives is a good place to start seeking resources.

4. TechnicalDotCom

This site was noticed because the author actively posted comments here and on my old personal blog, Destiny. But then, I won’t mention it here just because I know the author, it’s quality of the site that matters. TechnicalDotCom is listed here because that site contains many useful Blogger  ‘hacks’ and tips for blogging. It’s focused to help readers improve their blog’s layout/appearance and has detailed customization tutorials.   Check out the list of top posts from 2008 --- contains various well written and helpful tricks.

5. Onecoolsite

A very popular site containing many useful tips for bloggers, especially for SEO. It also has a good starting point for newbies on wordpress, and a general help series on becoming a better blogger.

Blog Promotion-related websites

6. Digg

Taken form its official description, "Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blo."  Digg allows bloggers and surfers to submit a URL of the story/post they like, and share it with everyone.

7. Entrecard

Entrecard allows you to put an ad on other blog's front page. It gives you a decent amount of visitors too if you drop cards/actively using it, since there’s old ‘reciprocal drop’.

8. Reddit

Similar to Digg, a resource list made from user submission. You can submit your post here to get more exposure.

9. StumbleUpon

Comes as a FireFox/Internet Explorer addon. It’s easy to use and arguably, the most interesting ‘thing’ to have. I recently wrote about how SU can help. This is the method we’re (Blogging With Success) actively using. ;)

10. Technorati

Technorati is a blog tracking service that currently indexes 6 million blogs and assigns them ranks based on number of 'Faves' and authority.

This list has been made from my experience, and so you readers might have your own tools and 'things' for blogging. So care to share it here?

Hi there,

I use windows live writer and Technorati. Windows live writer specially is an awesome tool. I’ve been completely satisfied with its performance. However, I would still like to have some handy improvements made to it. Technorati is something that I’m researching. I know is an excellent community source for like minded people, however I somehow find it rather strange to use it. Hope to get some good authority and reviews sometime soon.

Cheers,
Eddie Gear

There’s a specific group for Technorati on Blog Catalog. You could check it out and probably you will find any useful info there.

Wow! I just clicked on a referral link and I found this post. I read along and I found onecoolsite on and ****she did a little dance and blew you cyber kisses*** what an honor!

I’m enjoying watching this site develop, and truth be told, I’m envious of the fact that you are part of a team. As I’m not fully recovered yet and won’t be for some months to come I have value the fact that I can read so many excellent blogs, but I long to be able to write in depth again.

Thank you and your team so much for all you bring to our friendship, and by that I mean the goodwill and mutual support for our blogging venture. I treasure it.

Blog on :-)

I really hope you had your video camera on — that could go viral on YouTube! We’re only doing what we learn in communities like BlogCatalog and by reading established blogs like yours! We want our blog to carry over that open feedback and support that so many of our readers bring to blogging. I notice you’ve had more guest writers, lending your own team flavor to Onecoolsite. Until you return to in-depth writing we’re glad to have you drop by!

Yours is fully qualified to be listed here. I personally have been reading your blog for a while, and get so much valuable information from it.

Keep writing. :)
