125×125 FAQ: 10 Most Asked Questions

by Ishan · 4 comments

125 x 125 is a standard ad size for bloggers these days. If you are thinking about monetizing your blog, consider this size. Here are top 10 questions that are asked about 125 x 125 ads (and of course, the answers! ):

Q1: Why 125 x 125?

As I said, 125 x 125 is the de-facto standard for bloggers. 125 x 125 ads do not take much space and are easy on eyes!

Q2: Where to Place?

125 x 125 ads perform best in sidebar. Top of the sidebar is best position. Always place these ads in a group as single ad does not work well. Avoid placing them near content.

Q3: How Many to Place?

You can place anywhere from 2 to 10 blocks in sidebar. Anything more is overkill.

Q4: How to Design Own Ad?

If you are looking to do it yourself, refer to our tutorial on creating your own 125 x 125 ad.

Q5: Why Should I Have my own ad?

Because you can still use your ad for

  1. creating a "Grab My Button" Widget
  2. advertising for free at ad networks
  3. exchanging banners

Q6: Where to Find Ads?

You can either manage your own ads or join an ad network.

  • Direct Advertising: Most big blogs have direct advertising as their main income. While direct advertising needs lot of time, the results are very good!
  • Affiliate Ads: Affiliate banners are good candidates to fill up the unsold spots on your blog. Just make sure you choose relevant products!

If you want to join ad network, here are some good options:

  1. Pay Per Click Ads: Most ad networks have 125 x 125 size these days. If your blog is small and you are not planning to sell spots directly PPC is the way to go. AdSense and BidVertiser are two good options for PPC ads.
  2. Performancing Ads: Performancing is another good ad network for bloggers and is the biggest 125 x 125 ad marketplace on planet (as they say!)
  3. Project Wonderful: Project Wonderful is an advertising network where you can sell and buy advertising at low costs. Just place some ads on your blog and advertisers will buy according to the traffic. Ads are sold based through bids.
  4. CMF Ads: CMF ads is a direct advertising network where you can sell ad space for credits on monthly basis. Each credit equals $0.25.
  5. Adgitize: Adgitize is another good ad network! Currently, 125 x 125 ad boxes and 468 x 60 banners are supported. The main difference between Adgitize and other networks is that you are paid for posting to your blog and even reading other blogs in network!
  6. EntreCard: EntreCard is a free blog network where you can sell 125 x 125 ad block (only 1 per blog) for credits. They have recently started credit buy back program and you can sell 1000 credits for $1.

Q7: I am looking for direct advertisers, where to find them?

Look for related services. For example, if you have a blog about books, you can use affiliate ads for related books or find a publisher who is ready to advertise.

Q8:How Much Traffic Do I Need For Direct Ads?

I recommend at least 30,000 page view per month before you look for direct ads to publish on your blog.

Q9:I have less traffic, should I place affiliate ads of same size?

Well, no! You need to do extra work for converting affiliate leads. Use a PPC ad block from AdSense or BidVertiser. They are better in low traffic condition.

Q10.Do you have recommendations for managing direct ads?

You can use Google Ad Manager, OpenX Ad Server or WordPress Plugins to manage your ads. AdPro, the free service from Chitika is also a good option.

A very detailed questions and answers on 125×125 banners.

I read a post on Weblogzone.com that people say the 125×125 banners are dead now. They say it does not attract enough attention and so on, go have a look and share your opinion on the matter.

I still think that they are cool though :)

I believe that they are still alive. You can not ignore their importance by noticing statistics of just one blog. As SBA said in a comments on that post, “They will stay for years!

Good luck with your ads. You may want to design a default image for the blank spaces. Can also offer the space as a contest/giveaway to your readers for limited run.
