My Link To You!

Have you seen the trend of sharing link posts(or roundups) on other blogs?

Many bloggers are using such posts increasingly. Ever wondered why?

Simple, because with some clever linking, you may get links back to your blog. If you link to right blog at right time, it is almost certain that you will get back a good reward. It may be a link, a Thank You note or best, a new friend!

Wondering how to write a good link post? Simple, keep these rules in mind:

  1. Prefer Smaller Blogs: While it's OK to have one or two links to bigger blogs, all(or most of) your links should not be to higher blogs. The reason behind this is simple. Bigger blogs will not usually link back because #1- They have large number of links and do not have time to notice every new link(which small bloggers do have!) and #2- Even if your link is noticed, content quality should be high standard to get noticed.
  2. Do Not Overuse: Do not write too much or too long link posts. Keep number of links between 5-10.
  3. Notify: When you link to a blog, do not hesitate in notifying owner about this. Whether in comment or via Contact Form, tell that post was "great" and you will include it in your post. This helps in building relations. I experienced this when George Serradinho, one of our readers notified me that he was going to include one of my posts in his round up. Although I could not link back to him(we have different niches), but I did send a Thank You note and his chances of getting noticed in future have increased!
  4. Avoid Nofollow: Many bloggers check type of link (nofollow or dofollow) before taking any action. Nofollow decreases your chances of getting linked back.

Do you share links with your readers? Have any tip that I might have missed? Please reply in comments.

Hey Mr I. you said that you didn't link back to george because you have diferrent niches but with this post George got his link. Funny huh?

The monthly or weekly roundup is very popular these days and there's a lot of link exchange going on. I don't want to look like a copycat so that's why I'm offering my new special blog directory on my blog.

OMG. This nofollow stuff drives me insane! Why can't I wrap my head around it?

George Serradinho August 8, 2009

Thanks for the mention :)

It's a bit funny as I finished scheduling my Monday roundup and one of your links have been included. No jokes at all, very serious. It's the post called Sweet ‘n Simple HTML: Use those codes for Comments.

Otherwise, the post was short and straight to the point.

Bravo.

Even though the post was short, it's just as great as other long ones by other sites.
