Search
Every blogger loves search engine traffic! Why?
Because:
- It is targeted.
- Visitors are more likely to read related posts.
- Visitors are more likely to click ads (if they are related!)
Search Engine traffic normally starts coming within 1-2 months of creating your blog. But the question many bloggers ask is
Here is how you can increase your search engine traffic step by step:
Find What Works
Head on to Analytics or any other tracking service you use and find the phrases that consistently send traffic. Also consider the bounce rate and time spent for each phrases.
Make a list of phrases that have low bounce rate. Now, find the posts that got traffic from these phrase. If you use Analytics, as we do, read our series on How Much Do You Know About Your Traffic Referrals?.
Update
Next thing you should do is update the post with relevant information. Add links to related posts using appropriate text keywords (do not rely only on Related Posts plugins!)
Write Follow Up Post(s)
If you feel like writing a whole post about the same topic, go write it. Do not forget to link from the old post.
You can also write multiple posts about the topic (only if they add value). For example, we have written three follow up posts for Grab My Button Tutorial.
Interlink
Interlinking is considered good for SEO. If you have written follow up posts, you can link the older post from there.
Get Linked
Links from other domains will also help in getting better ranking on the search results page. You can either ask a blogger(to link to you) or write a guest post.
If you decide to go guest posting way, just add your blog’s link in the credit section of the guest post!
Follow these steps and you will definitely see an increase in organic traffic. Have any tip/step in mind I might have left? Share in comments!

Some good points you have listed above. I have just recently started to link back to older posts and I can see the difference. Another way to get good traffic also depends on your keywords being used.
Thanks for Comment.
I agree with you on choosing keywords. Of course, one should do some research and target keywords with decent search volume. There’s no use focusing on keyword that has just 100 searches per month!
Where’s the best place to find trending keywords that are becoming or are already popular?
High value keywords and back-linking are the essential aspects of any SEO. Your post has highlighted both. I’d also recommend commenting on other successful blogs.
Linking back to earlier post is a great method to not only get your visitors to visit them as well, but also to share some link love to your old posts. I recommend everyone to do this since you’ll see a tremendous change.
Making successful blog is gradual process.
Couldn’t be more agree with you Mr. I. I Also agree with iWrite2know. Just remember to always leave a well-thought and good comments. It might attract other readers to visit your blog. Just like me

I do’nt fully understand much of what you’re writing. I think that if people already know what you’re talking about, they’ll understand you. But you’re writing to those who do not, right? Or to those who are learning about posts, blogs etc., right? Like me. So if you write about “bounce back”, what is that? Also, it’s my understanding that linking within your own blog doesn’t increase traffic. Even linking from one blog to another on the same server doesn’t make a significant difference in rankings. So please explain why linking back to earlier (or later) posts would do anything in rankings. Thanks.
Well, rankings improve when you link to older posts, it is easy for Spiders to find it and also, since the anchor text is optimized, you can score better for that term. The difference is not huge but noticeable.
Bounce: a bounce is term used to describe a visit that lasted for less than fixed point. That is, if you consider 30 sec. as threshold, every visit that lasts for less than 30 sec will be counted as a bounce. It is nly counted if visitors navigates away from your site, not to an internal page!
Few useful tips have been listed in your post, which can make a difference. I am certainly going to try.
