Anyone can place ads on his blog. But we don't all make an equal amount of money from those ads. Why is it so?
Here are 7 tips to make sure you really earn from your blog.
1. Position Matters: No matter how much you try, an ad above the fold in sidebar will perform better than one in the footer.
2. Do not Overload: More is not better! Remember this when placing ads on your blog. A lot of ads make your blog slow and readers do not like it. They visit for your content not for a page full of ads.
3. Trial and Error: Not every ad network is perfect for every blog. For some blogs text ads work better than CPM. Try different ad networks for the one that works best and stick with it. We here have tried many PPC networks and now have settled with Chitika.
4. Attract Traffic: You can not earn much unless you get good traffic. So, having good traffic is a necessity. Spend time promoting your content.
5. Know Your Readers: You must have audience in mind when you place an ad. What's the point of placing an irrelevant ad? It's just a waste of space (and money).
6. Stick to Reader's Mind: Do not make your blog another one in the crowd. Brand your blog and make sure readers remember it.
7. Be Fresh: Learn to be different. If you write same things everyone else is writing, it will be difficult to find and keep readers. Mix unique articles with basics and tutorials.
What tips do you have for others? How do you make sure that ads earn for you?

I am a newbie when it comes to ads. I was running BlogHer ads for awhile but will stop them come March 31 as their revenue has dropped markedly this year.
I am launching my redesigned blog on April 1 and will be opening up my blog to public advertising with ads above the fold – based on a monthly fee instead of CPM, since I have no idea how to do CPM.
But I have no idea if anyone will be interested – I gave away a couple of ad spaces in a recent giveaway, just so I could have something there. But I swear, it’s stressing me out to realize that I could very well have no paid ads. Kind of like having a party, inviting everyone and no one comes.
Ugh.
Not many people clicking on ads. It’s really a tricky thingy, so either you need to lure people to click ads or write a sensational thing so as people would be incited to click blindly on your sites (including your ads lol). As for me, I have Adblock Plus installed so there’s even less chance for me to click ads lol.
Writing content related to consumer products/services probably helps more than anything (placement and ad size is huge, too, but those are easy fixes). Writing about products (reviews, consumer information, etc) attracts visitors who were already thinking of buying that product. They’re a lot more likely to click on an ad than someone who surfed in for idle entertainment.
Yes, it helps a lot, especially in affiliate marketing. Thanks for sharing the tip!
That’s a really good idea Lindsay.
You might want to add that to your list Mr. I
Yes, I agree. But post is very old now and I think I will add it to a newer post. Thanks for Commenting.
