Need Ideas for Blog Topics?

by Fransiska · 5 comments

As new bloggers you want to build up your archive of knowledge --- expertise, perspective, information --- for your readers. Granted, sometimes people are just clueless about what to post. There are a few easy tricks to keep the ideas flowing:

1. Visit Social Websites for Bloggers

The prime example for this is Blog Catalog. There you can socialize with other bloggers and ask around for ideas, if needed. As for me, there's no need to ask, I just roam around and look into as many topics as I can. In the past, this has always been my biggest source for writing posts. On Blog Catalog Discussion pages you can see many topics, and from them you can get one that suits you and start writing from your ideas and positions on the issue.

This isn't just for Blog Catalog, you can also do the same thing from using other websites that have forums.

2. Listen to the news.

Maybe your blog just needs fresh content? You can start getting ideas by reading/hearing latest news from media, be it newspaper or TV. You can also subscribe to news feeds, from other blogs or news websites. These often good sources for your blog. Find sources that are relevant for you blog though.

3. Through random Google search

Worth a try. Just search every keywords you have in mind and see if it brings up good results, or not. It won't hurt to try, yes? I once tried a keyword 'warcraft 3 custom map' and ended up blogging about it. It finally became my most popular post until now. Very impressive but unexpected result, eh?

4. Write about yourself

Sometimes, it is better to write about yourself. Just tell a bit about yourself, your life, pets etc. People like personalized blogs and sometimes, they want to know the blog author.

5. Ask other bloggers to give you ideas

Don't be shy, ask if you want to. We all need help from others, even the most experienced ones.

6. Use Yahoo Answers

Yahoo Answers is the great place for people to ask and get their questions answered. You can search through all recent or even old topics and start blogging from what you've found there.

7. Use StumbleUpon

My latest post on my personal blog was taken from a topic on StumbleUpon. I dug through it and found similar topics.

There are still many other ways to get ideas for blog topics so, post your thoughts and tell us what you do in such situations. How did you come up with the idea for that great post?

the only thing that i can share for the new bloggers is to blog about what they find interesting or what they like. hobbies, sports, movie reviews, etc… the internet is a great place to share your ideas and input.

those are great ways to find topics, the only problem with me is in photography you have to be creative.

@bigbear6208 – I’d say photography is your topic/niche. So you’re already set. People never get enough of creative and interesting photos. And just like a blog posts they can be controversial, engaging or leave you speechless.
