Too few people post comments on others blogs and many post insincere comments. I think people should realise that blogging is as much about reading other peoples blogs as it is about writing your own blog.

Fransiska's text refers to the blog owner who responds with a personal attack on one of his commentators. The advice is DO NOT, but if you do it will be seen by everyone. Most blog owners have a comment policy which states they will not tolerate personal and negative comments about other individuals. This means they moderate such foolishness and it is not published. Disagreement with content is fine and encouraged as long as the language is not foul.

I saw such a comment in a blog and was angry with the blog owner for publishing it. I even added a comment defending the person to keep the record balanced.

So I do not ignore such attacks. But there is no right answer. You may leave a comment that attacks you as the blog owner just to let others see how foolish it is. I would draw the line with attacks on others.

I think (and practice) that the best way of dealing with a useless personal attack comment is by ignoring it. Is this right?

Hi,

I have gotten a few comments on my blog with just plain junk in like 'Thanks, nice read :)'. In the past I use to leave it, but now I delete them. Like you said, they add no value at all. When I leave comments I do try my best and I would like my commentators to do the same.

i have yet to receive a comment that is on a personal attack level. I guess it depends on what you post. You have to take the good with the bad :) I was told once that you should always read a comment at least twice to really understand what they are trying to say, be on the safe side.
