Blogging With Success Version 2.1!

So finally, our redesign got completed! We asked readers about the new design and got some interesting comments. Take a look:

I think it’s cleaner and simpler - Creative Junkie

I really admire it. The entire site is set up for readers and well organized. The older posts are readily accessible to readers. The content is up front and not hidden in distracting clutter. -Timethief

I guess it does justice to so many quality posts as they get proper exposure on the homepage -Rakesh

First of all, thanks to all readers for keeping up with blog between the transistion, Vladimir Prelovac for Theme Test Drive plugin which allowed us to test theme without making it public and WP-Them.es for this theme. They have pretty good themes that are well coded and easy to edit.

And now, here is what we did to the theme:

1. Social Bookmarking Fixes: The large social media buttons were added a while ago but there was a small bug. Not bug, but a mistake on my side. I had not added title attribute and this meant only link got posted to Digg, StumbleUpon and Delicious. Now, its fixed.

2. Recent Posts in Sidebar: We always had a recent posts widget in sidebar but with introduction of new theme, it was not needed on homepage since 10 post excerpts are already there. It took us time to find the solution but finally, it is done. Recent Posts widget does not show up at homepage now but is visible when viewing individual posts. Want to know how we did it? Read 50 Must have Plugins for WordPress 2.7. The plugin is there.

3. Top Commentators: The widget is now in the footer and we have filtered out team members so that only readers are on the list. Is your name there?

4. Tweets: Added the tweeter widget in the sidebar. And with this, we are also introducing Blogging With Success on Twitter. There you will find articles related to blogging everyday,  so make sure you follow us. Also, we added a small Tweet This button besides other social bookmarks.

5. Navigation Menu: Original theme had simple navigation menu that displayed a category list. We replaced it with a drop down menu with the help of WP Menu Manager plugin. If you want a similar menu like this, hold on, we will be writing a small tutorial for newbies.

What next? We are waiting for your suggestions --- anything else you would like to see? Tell us through comments.

I love your site redesign … it’s clean, it’s simple, it’s fresh, it’s easily navigated … it just plain works.

I’m in the midst of redesigning my site as well … I’d love to know what plugin you used for the social bookmarks? Please tell me it’s a simple plugin because if I have to mess around with code, I might cry.

Speaking of crying … I might be wailing pretty soon because I also will be using that Theme Test Drive plugin and I have no idea what I’m doing. You just might find me on your doorstep, begging for help.

Thanks for complement!

We are always here for help. However, I am afraid that you will not want to hear this: “The social bookmarks were hard coded by us into the theme”

If you want, I can code these bookmarks into your theme.

*sigh* – I knew it.

Thank you, but I think I’ll forego them for now because I’ve got so many other things on my plate with my site redesign. Did you use Elegant Themes? A friend of mine signed up with them as well and she’s been very satisfied with both the product and support. Her site looks great also! I went the Thesis route … I’m hoping I made the right choice.

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything else your site needs – wonderful job!

We plan to use Quadro from Elegant Themes but we will not jump so quickly. Right now, we are using a free theme (customized a lot). Only after another 6 or 7 months, we will change.
Thesis is pretty good theme and considering its customizability, you have made good decision.

Hi there Mr. I,

I like this design (layout), as for the only thing I would like to see changed on this site is something with the combination of fonts. When you plan on the next re-design or upgrade that Is something that might want to look into.

Cheers,
Eddie Gear

I love the blockquote styling! Seriously awesome. I’m not a big fan of the colors, but overall everything looks pretty awesome. :)
